Reading Slumps!

Around this time of year, almost ever year, I hit a horrible reading slump. My main way to get out of this slump is to re-read my favorite book series (the Study series by Maria V. Snyder). It usually helps because her novels make me excited to read and I can consume them quickly and effortlessly.

Other ways to get out of a reading slump is to pick a short read or start slow, like reading published stories on Wattpad. Usually the you can find a pretty good story on Wattpad and they're usually fairly short, or just fairly easy to get into. I read a TON of stories on Wattpad earlier this year, sadly they don't count towards my Goodreads challenge (I'll link my Goodreads in my profile). Audiobooks are also another good source to use. You can listen to an audio book whenever: driving, exercising, doing homework, pretty much anywhere. This will help you get your reading in without having to look at words!

Audible is a beautiful, beautiful creation.

If these methods don't work for you, you can always try to make yourself read. It sounds like a bad idea, but it's what you have to do sometimes. Sometimes, it's just the book. I'll admit, some books do start out extremely slow and make me feel like I'm in a slump but once I get past that specific part, I zoom through the rest of the book. Put the book beside your bed, or just always keep one with you!

But, if making yourself read doesn't help, just take a break entirely from reading. Maybe you just read too much in too short of a time and completely wore your brain's capacity to read out. A break could be what you need to continue on with your ever growing appetite for a good book.

I'm currently trying to get myself out of a slump. So I'm trying to use audiobooks and Poison Study to get me back into the swing of things. I'm hoping it works. The last month and a half has been hectic, which I also think is part of the cause. Working, school, homework, and a social life are all things that can exhaust you and make you think, "do I really want to read?" Sometimes I say definitely not and choose sleep instead. Other times I try to read at least one chapter, and even if I can't read the entire chapter I can get a few pages in. It helps me still get through the book, even if it's at a snails pace.

Reading slumps are no fun, but most readers have one. You just have to push through and get over the mountain! Then your reading habits will eventually reach normality.

To anyone else in a reading slump, good luck and I hope you make it through soon!
Kaitlyn.

October

The month of October is here, meaning: Halloween, candy, scary movies (if I watched them), hayrides, and sweater weather.

While all of these things are wonderful, I get excited for new releases, TBRs, and bookish goals. This month, a few of the things on my TBR are:

            • Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
            • Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
            • You by Caroline Kepnes
            • Six of Crows (audiobook) by Leigh Bardugo
            • Crooked Kingdom (audiobook) by Leigh Bardugo
            • Poison Study (a re-read) by Maria V. Snyder
While I have no idea if I'll have the chance to get all of these novels read throughout the course of October with school and a job, I am willing to try. My main goal is to try to finish Crown of Midnight because I have been reading it for what feels like forever. So, hopefully, I can finish it fairly quickly! Then once I finish I'll try to post a review.

The way I'll try to set up review is the spoiler free first, then I'll do the spoiler filled portion after warning whoever has not read the book yet.

It's going to take a few reviews to actually get into the swing of things, but later on today I'll probably post reviews of my more recent reads so that I can get into the flow of writing these reviews.

I will also try to do a September wrap-up! It will probably just include my purchased books and read books (which is literally nothing because school and work took over my life temporarily).

Until next time!
